Why Maternity Photos Matter | St. Louis Family Photographer

Sometimes in the whirlwind of all the endless list of things that need to be done before baby arrives, it’s easy to wonder why maternity photos matter?

Pregnancy is one of those wild seasons in life that feels both endless and fleeting all at once. The days can feel long, and your body is changing in ways you never imagined. And then you blink and it’s all over. You’ll look back and realize how quickly it all went by.

As a St. Louis family photographer, that’s why I think documenting this time is worth it. These photos are not just about capturing a baby bump. Rather, they’re about remembering the anticipation, the emotions, and the love that’s overflowing as you wait for your little one to arrive.

While it might be hard to imagine in the middle of the night, when you’ve got round ligament pains keeping you awake… one day you’ll miss seeing yourself pregnant.

And that’s why maternity photos matter.

At Tower Grove Park in St. Louis, this sweet family embraced all of it. The sunny day outside, the time together, the quiet fleeting moments.

This mama-to-be looked absolutely stunning in a long white dress that hugged her bump in all the best ways. I love a timeless, classic maternity moment. Their little girl twirled around in a caramel-colored dress with a big white bow in her hair, bringing so much energy and personality to the shoot. And dad kept it relaxed in a neutral button-up and navy pants, perfectly complementing the earthy tones of the park. They looked picture-perfect, while keeping it laid-back and relaxed.

What I love most about these sessions is that they aren’t just posed moments. It’s the way a mom lifts her toddler into the air with sunlight spilling behind her, her new little one framed in her sweet bump. The way a couple laughs while chasing their little one across the grass. Or how they pause to soak each other in before everything changes again. These photos are less about perfection and more about connection; because that’s what this season is truly about.

You only carry your baby for so long, and while it might not always feel glamorous in the moment, it’s a chapter worth remembering. That’s why maternity photos matter, in my book.

One day, you may find yourself longing to feel those tiny kicks again. Or to remember exactly how you looked and felt right before meeting your baby. Photos let you hold onto that feeling.

So if you’re on the fence about booking a maternity session, consider it a gift to yourself. A gift to your partne and your kids. (And your future selves!).

And Tower Grove Park is a great location to have as your backdrop! As a St. Louis Family photographer, I would shoot there every week! It gave us the perfect mix of color, texture, and light. 10/10 recommend.

This is a season that deserves to be documented. Because even though pregnancy feels temporary, you’ll want to remember this anticipatory season forever.

I’m drawn to the unfiltered moments that make up real life. My work is about more than just what’s seen—it’s about what’s felt. My focus is on capturing emotion, connection, and the in-between moments that often go unnoticed but hold the most meaning. If you’re looking for imagery that feels real, personal, and alive, let’s create something together.
