1 Year Anniversary Session | St. Louis Wedding Photographer

A 1 year anniversary session does not have to feel like a production. Sometimes the most meaningful way to celebrate is by doing exactly what you already love together.

Case in point: this session was built around the familiarity and joy these two had built in their first chapter a married couple. We started with a walk along a trail they visit often. It was a gorgeous location with tall trees framing the path. Leaves covered the ground in soft layers, and the air felt calm and peaceful. I felt so lucky to be there to capture their connection as a documentary style photographer.

Their outfits reflected that same intention. They opted for casual denim and soft layers. Everything felt lived in and true to them, nothing fussy or forced. Their clothing allowed them to move freely, lean into each other, and exist in the moment. The result was a quiet intimacy showing up in their photos. This day really was like a date where I was the third wheel.

Why should your 1 year anniversary session reflect real life?

Because this is you, after the dust has settled. This is you after a year of lived experiences as newlyweds. Being able to meet up together and capture some of your everyday life, means that you will have photos to look back on in 5, 10 or 15 years. When life has catapulted into something totally different and new. You’ll be able to tangibly “revisit” these good old days through this imagery.

So, after the trail, we shifted into their favorite date night tradition: Steak ’n Shake. And yes, it was exactly as fun as it sounds. Bright lights. Vinyl booths. Milkshakes with red straws. Fries shared across the table.

This part of the session felt playful and nostalgic. AND: it captured who they are on an ordinary night together.

This is why choosing locations and activities that reflect real life matters so much. When couples pick places they genuinely love, the comfort level rises immediately. That’s a win in my book!

The connection shows without effort. The photos feel honest. There is no pressure to perform or pose. Everyday routines create space for real emotion to surface.

Sessions like this remind us that photography does not have to be about perfection. It can be about presence instead. It can be about honoring the small rituals that make up a relationship.

Whether it’s walking familiar trails, or sharing a favorite meal.

A 1 year anniversary session is not just about marking time. It is about noticing and honoring the life you are actively building together. When you choose what is meaningful, the images become timeless.

I’m drawn to the unfiltered moments that make up real life. My work is about more than just what’s seen—it’s about what’s felt. My focus is on capturing emotion, connection, and the in-between moments that often go unnoticed but hold the most meaning. If you’re looking for imagery that feels real, personal, and alive, let’s create something together.
