I have been waiting to share this editorial elopement session with you!! It was such a gorgeous day, and these two were the sweetest, realest, most amazing couple.
A shoot like his is about more than beautiful images. It is about atmosphere. Mood. Intention. And boy, did we have it all!
This session in downtown St. Louis felt like stepping into a magazine spread. One that still held space for real connection and organic moments.
We began at The Last Hotel. This space carries so much character and charm, I was so bummed to hear they closed shortly after this session. I’m so glad we got to photograph here first! Soft window light poured into the rooms. Marble floors reflected movement. Neutral tones let the couple and their story take center stage, while providing the perfect backdrops. Hotels like this create a natural sense of elevation! Basically I felt like we got to create a cinematic set of photos in the most beautiful place. As a St. Louis wedding photographer, I call that a win.
The bride’s look was minimal and sculptural.
She had two different dresses, both looked incredible. The first dress was a short white one with clean lines and an open back. Paired with platform heels (okay Vogue-vibes!!) Her second dress was a longer, silk option that still just radiated “bridal era”. Gorgeous!!
Her groom’s outfit balanced her perfectly. Relaxed tailoring, an open collar, and polished shoes that felt effortless rather than styled. Together, they looked so. Damn. good.
So what is an editorial elopement session?
These sessions typically take place after your courthouse or micro wedding day. Or later the same day. We get to wander, take our time, enjoy the “we just got married!!!” glow.
The direction from me as your photographer is intentional, but never stiff. Movement is subtle… think: a hand at the waist. A glance held a second longer. Sitting close on a hotel sofa. Sharing pizza at the bar like no one else is watching. These moments blur the line between documentary and high-end curation. They allow couples to exist inside a space rather than perform for the camera, while also getting really timeless photos in their gallery.
The second half of this session moved outdoors to a downtown courthouse.
I’m always intrigued by the old money look of these buildings in my images. The strong columns and historic stone. Symmetry and scale that instantly add drama to all the photos… Courthouse architecture carries an inherent BIG DAY energy. Which is perfect when this is the biggest day of your lives, ya know?? Walking hand in hand up the steps felt a little symbolic, like the beginning of something permanent. I’m forever obsessed with that photo of them below.
I want you to notice the architecture, light, and texture do a lot of the storytelling here. The city becomes part of the narrative. Wide steps create space. Tall doors frame intimacy.
This contrast between soft connection and bold structure creates images that feel layered and emotional for their editorial elopement session.
This loosely guided approach does not mean losing authenticity. It means trusting that real moments can live beautifully inside these refined spaces. It means letting you explore the real-life feelings you’re having, in beautiful places. Mixing playful poses with quiet, unscripted pauses creates a gallery full of images you’re going to want to hang on your walls and update your iphone background asap.
Use this editorial elopement session as a reminder that your session can be artful without being distant. Think of it as fashion-forward, but without being forced.
