There’s something extra special about a candid maternity photo session. As a Documentary style photographer, these are the images I gravitate towards over and over. The ones where your family is playing and enjoying each other, and almost forgets the camera exists. So much of the deepest beauty in this life happens in everyday moments, and documenting that in an artistic way is the heartbeat of my work as a St. Louis Photographer.
This session was exactly that.
On a warm evening surrounded by lush green grass, towering trees, and golden light filtering through the leaves, this family spent time together doing what they do best. Simply being themselves. No pressure for those perfect poses. Just real moments unfolding naturally.
When you approach your candid maternity photo session this way… you get the kind of images that feel like memories before they even happen.

One of my favorite things about family sessions is when little ones take the lead.
This sweet toddler arrived ready to explore. Armed with a tiny watering can, sidewalk chalk, and endless curiosity, she transformed the entire session into a bite-size adventure. One minute she was watering the garden. The next she was creating colorful chalk masterpieces. Then she was running hand-in-hand with her parents across the grass.
Those unscripted moments always become the heart of the gallery.
And the whole emotion of the day was punctuated by the family’s anticipatory joy in the upcoming arrival of baby number two. You can tell this new little one is going to be so loved and cared for.

The magic of this candid maternity photo session wasn’t found in looking at the camera, putting on their best smiles.
It was in the way Dad crouched down beside his daughter. The way Mom laughed while holding her growing baby bump. The tiny hands reaching up to hold both parents at once. The kisses, giggles, and playful chaos that naturally happened throughout the evening.
Those are the moments are the ones that feel visceral.
They’re the ones you’ll want to revisit in 20 years. When you’d give anything to hold their tiny hand again.
My goal as a lifestyle photographer is to help you visually freeze these moments you know you’ll miss. To give you a gallery of images that you can reference for the years to come. A way to ease the nostalgia and sink into the love of right now.
I want families to remember what this season felt like, not just what it looked like.

There was such a beautiful balance throughout this session.
One part maternity session. Another part a family session. And finally, a celebration of the child who is about to become a big sister.
Because life doesn’t pause while you’re waiting. It’s happening right now.
Years from now, this family may not remember every outfit, every toy, or every detail of this season.
But they’ll remember the laughter.
They’ll remember the silly smiles. The way their daughter fit perfectly in their arms. The excitement of counting down the days until baby arrived.
And that’s exactly why I love a good candid maternity photo session. They preserve the moments that feel ordinary today, yet completely priceless tomorrow.
