Lifestyle Session at Basketball Court | St Louis Family Photographer

The moment I got in my car after this lifestyle session and raced home to back up my photos – I knew I was going to be excited to share them with you on the blog. There was something so magical about this day, laughing and giggling at the park together. Watching the Jefferson family just be… themselves.

These ordinary moments inspire me so much as a photographer.

Here’s what I always want my clients asking themselves before booking with me: when you look back at your family photos years from now, what do you want to remember?

Maybe it’s the chalk-covered sidewalk art that covered the pavement all summer. The sound of squeals as your tiny people race each other. The way your youngest gripped their scooter handles with the biggest, proudest grin. Or how your big kid showed off their best basketball shot, over and over again, until they got it just right.

That’s what this lifestyle session was about. No stiff poses, no forced smiles. Just a morning spent doing what these cuties actually love to do together.

And that’s the kind of storytelling I want to do more of.

Because here’s the truth: when we document your family doing something that’s uniquely yours, the photos hit differently. You see personality. Emotion. Connection. You remember who your kids were in this season. Not just what they wore or how their hair looked.

There’s nothing wrong with the “everyone smile at the camera” photos. But that’s not what lights me up as a St. Louis family photographer.

I want these to be the photos you pass by in the hallway for the years to come. The ones that make you stop and grin to yourself, because you can almost hear the giggles again.

These are the photos that transport you. To feel the sunshine on your skin, and remember the way your tiny people snuggled into you without being asked.

When we choose an activity that’s true to your family, everything shifts. The session becomes relaxed, natural, and joyful, because your kids are engaged in something they already love. That’s when their real personalities shine. That’s when we get those in-between moments that matter most.

This is why I’m moving toward a new direction: family sessions that are centered around doing something together. That could mean baking in your kitchen, playing in your backyard, building sandcastles, painting, hiking, gardening… anything your family loves right now.

Low pressure, high vibes.

It’s not about dressing up to impress. It’s about dressing comfortably, showing up as you are, and letting me document the beauty of your connection.

The family from this session came as they were… hoodies, scooters, chalk-covered fingers, sneakers on – ready to play. We ditched Pinterest expectations (although I would argue these moments are Pinterest worthy) and embraced their actual, joyful, slightly messy, completely beautiful life.

So if you’ve ever looked at traditional family photos and felt like they didn’t quite capture your reality… you’re my kind of people. A lifestyle session is right up your alley.

Let’s create something honest. Something warm and nostalgic and a little bit magic.
Photos that will help you remember what this chapter felt like.

Ready for a different kind of session?
Let’s plan something meaningful, playful, and true to your family.

I’m drawn to the unfiltered moments that make up real life. My work is about more than just what’s seen—it’s about what’s felt. My focus is on capturing emotion, connection, and the in-between moments that often go unnoticed but hold the most meaning. If you’re looking for imagery that feels real, personal, and alive, let’s create something together.
