Some of the best family photos don’t happen on mountain tops or at elaborate venues… they happen in the places where real life unfolds. That’s what I love most about sessions like this laid-back session at Tilles Park in St. Louis.
This family wanted to capture their everyday moments: a picnic in the grass, a little playground time, even celebrating their pup’s birthday with a bone-shaped cake.
Nothing fancy, nothing over-styled: just their people, their routines, and their love.
The kids ran barefoot through the grass, carried around favorite stuffed animals, and climbed across the playground with their dad’s help. Their daughter wore the sweetest little embroidered matching set (complete with red rain boots. Are you kidding me!?) While the baby rocked just denim overalls for the cutest baby look ever.
This laid-back session at Tilles Park wasn’t about finding the perfectly coordinated outfits, it was about documenting their real, true life. As a St. Louis Family Photographer, these are the kinds of sessions I am drawn to.
I believe your everyday life is magical. After all, these are the good old days. You’ll want to remember them.
After playing on the basketball courts, this sweet family spread out a blanket in the shade. They shared snacks and picture books as the dog laid happily at their side. It wasn’t a “perfectly posed” session, it was messy and joyful in the best way.
And that’s the magic. These little rituals… the way your toddler insists on bringing her toy everywhere, the way your baby grabs at the pages of a book, the way your dog is really just another sibling… are the things you’ll want to remember years from now. They’re the markers of this season of life, but they are small. And they pass faster than we think.
Family photography doesn’t have to mean JC Penney style posed photos anymore. It can simply mean inviting me in on your everyday beautiful chaos, and letting me capture it. Whether that looks like reading books on a picnic blanket, helping your kiddo across the monkey bars, or sneaking strawberries straight from the snack basket: it all matters.
This laid-back session in Tilles Park was one I won’t soon forget.
And the park was the perfect backdrop for this family because it’s a spot woven into their real life. That’s what makes these photos feel so personal and timeless. When you look back at your family photos years from now, I hope they bring you right back, not just to how things looked, but to how they felt.
